Poland launches shopping receipt lottery to boost tax income


The Polish government has organized the nation’s first shopping receipt lottery aimed at boosting budget income from sales taxes.

The nation’s economic growth is mainly based on local demand, but there is also significant tax evasion. That has become a problem recently as the government has tried to increase spending.

Deputy Finance Minister Izabela Leszczyna said Thursday the lottery is intended to encourage shoppers to ask for receipts from sellers, leading to less evasion on sales tax.
